SUMMARY OF AWARDS

The OEA gives the following awards in the area of Human and Civil rights: Kate Frank Award, Tuskahoma Brown Miller Award, F.D. Moon Award and the Glenn Snider Human Relations Award. Other awards include the OEA Friend of Education, the Claude A. Dyer Memorial Award, the Stan Bryant Political Action Award, the Education Support Personnel Award, Advocate for Academic Freedom Award and the Collective Bargaining Awards and the Anti-Censorship Award. There are two Instructional Excellence in Education Awards. One award is presented for Excellence in the Classroom and the other is for Teachers Teaching Teachers. In the communications area a number of Marshall Gregory Awards are given to student and professional media for quality presentations in the field of education. Communication excellence by local organizations is honored with the Golden Apple Award.

Applications are available October 1st and are due to the OEA by January 31st. The awards will be presented during the annual OEA Delegate Assembly in April.

NEA awards include Friend of Education Award, Human and Civil Rights Awards, Student Teaching Competition and Awards for the Advancement of Learning Through Broadcasting.

The OEA participates with several other groups in the Bicentennial Education Partnership Grants. The grants are used for projects designed to improve and enrich public education. Applications are due May 1st.

All awards given by OEA are subject to the approval of the Board of Directors.


OEA AWARDS GUIDELINES

  1. Although these awards are classified as annual awards, the review committee may choose not to award them.

  2. The Kate Frank Award may be presented in two categories, OEA Leader and OEA Association.

  3. The Glenn Snider Human Relations Award will be presented to a school district, individual or organization.

  4. The Human and Civil Rights, Communications, Instructional Excellence, Education Support Personnel, Collective Bargaining, Forces on Education, Friend of Education, and Political Activist Awards will be presented at an awards banquet on the Friday evening of Delegate Assembly.

  5. The Human and Civil Rights Committee will review and recommend nominations for the Human and Civil Rights Awards.

  6. The Communications Committee will review and recommend nominations for the Marshall Gregory Awards.

  7. The IPD Committee will review and recommend nominations for the Instructional Excellence Awards.

  8. The OEA Education Support Personnel Committee will review and recommend nominations for the Education Support Personnel Award.

  9. The Collective Bargaining Committee will review and recommend nominations for the Collective Bargaining Award.

  10. The Forces On Education Committee will review and recommend nominations for the OEA Advocate for Academic Freedom Award.

  11. The OEA Board of Directors will nominate and select the OEA Friend of Education, the Claude A. Dyer Memorial Awards, and Political Activist Awards and OEA Outstanding Legislator Award.

     Nominations and Awards Schedule: OEA Awards

    Nominations open: the first day of October of each year.

    Nominations close: the last day of January of each year.

    Recommendations from Committees go to OEA Board of Directors at the February board meeting for final approval.

    Awards are presented in April at OEA Delegate Assembly Awards Banquet.
